Celebrations, Smiles and Frowns

What a week it has been! We celebrated the boys 4 and 6 birthdays last Saturday complete with jumping castle and castle cake. Note to self - never let them choose another cake that has royal blue icing. It's really not an attractive food colour and it gets on everything! Saturday was also the arrival of the final pieces of my desk puzzle so I finally got to put it together on Sunday. I've still got a little bit to do and I had to compromise on the silver legs but I do like the industrial looking drawers. The frowns for the week came from a supreme act of stupidity on my part. I decided to rebuild my computer and thought I'd backed everything up but it turns out I hadn't. So I inadvertently purged myself of many years worth of collecting web links and not so useless documents. Swampfire (my big boy's alien in the bottom picture) was just menacing enough to remind me of my ordeal and I have carpet burn on my elbow from throwing myself on the floor in a dramatic turn upon the realisation that everything was gone. The only saving grace was all pictures were on a different drive. I'm trying to convince myself that this really is a blessing in disguise.

Who's A Pretty Gypsy? Lamp

The lovely creator behind Tango & James came by in her finery (she was off to the races) this morning to drop off the lamp. I think she did a wonderful job and I absolutely love the colour. It also looks perfect in our family room. I'm sitting typing at my new desk which I'm convinced is making my computer faster... but more on that later.

A Little More Sombre

It's been just over a week since many parts of Victoria started to burn. It's been impossible to escape these images and stories and while I am not personally affected I cannot but feel deeply for fellow Australians who have lost family, friends, property, possessions and whole townships. I would like to give credit to the people who captured these images but they are just two of many that are circling the internet. The bottom image shows "Elvis" a water bombing helicopter and according to my colleague it was a welcome sound during the Canberra bushfires of 2003. If you can make a donation to the Australian Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal.

Handmade Upmarket

{images via Nina Ribena Makes}
Well I survived a trip to the Handmade upMarket without too much of a dint in my wallet. I purchased some beautiful fabric from Moyou and met Amy who had also lived in Japan. My real find were these lamps from the effervescent Lisa of Tango & James and Canberra's Got Style fame. It was lovely to meet her. I couldn't go the pink but I just love the print used for the shade. Lisa has agreed to do one for me with a green base. I can't wait for the next one!
