Farewell 2009

As the sun sets I just wanted to say farewell to 2009. I'm not a fan of New Year's day for a reason that I cannot explain. It's the same aversion I have to the first page of a book but that doesn't stop me reading ( I think I may have blogged about this before). Safe to say you probably won't hear from me until after the 1st. I am filled with anticipation of the year to come and deep reflection of what has passed.

Seeing Green

No matter how I word the title today it just sounds wrong. Currently it would make me seem like the green-eyed monster, which I'm not. Previously I had stated simply what they are - Green Jugs - but there was something not quite right about that either. I love the colour green and it really overtakes when decisions of colour are required. This is especially true when green is pitted against blue. Which is why I was so taken with these green jugs in Studio Altenberg yesterday; not just the colour but also the shape especially those handles. Do you think they would look as lovely if there was just one? Please excuse the quality of the image. I have not perfected the art of iPhone photography and what to do with low light. My other faux pas was forgetting to take note of the artist's name so I can give credit where it is due. In my defence I have emailed the Studio to ask them and will amend this post if or when they reply.
Update - I got a reply from the Studio and here it is. "Thank you for your enquiry the artist is Lene Jakobsen...  from memory the three prices of the jugs in this image you have sent - large to small are $180, $150 and $120"

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas one and all. Thanks to the beautiful rain that is still falling we were not woken up at the crack of dawn by our little men. They are well pleased with their stash and as I type my darling husband is trying to build one of two Lego gifts and they are 'helping' him. I have a few more minutes of peace before my kitchen duty begins. It is just us four for lunch today but I'm still going all out and we'll be having lamb cutlets with mint aioli, asparagus and snow peas and a roasted pumpkin, spanish onion, spinach and fetta salad. Topped off with an orange and chocolate pudding for dessert. That should keep us going until Boxing Day.

I am not what you would call a dedicated follower of fashion but I do love bags! While bidding on eBay for this one - the red plait poppet by Louenhide I went searching for other stockists of Louenhide bags. This is how I stumbled across Birdsnest and found a top so cute that I had to have it (which my darling husband thinks is an excuse he can use for a $3000+ bicycle). The cute top, which I didn't expect to see until after Christmas, arrived on my doorstep less than 24 hours after I ordered it - how did they do it? In case you're wondering I won the bag for $3.11 less than my maximum bid!

6 Sleeps to Go

As the boys would say... 6 sleeps to go! Between the advent calendar and the counting of sleeps they are getting very excited about Christmas. School is now over for the year and our tradition of baking and creating for our friends is all done. The last of our little Christmas treats left the house this morning and I think they looked quite cute all packaged up with ribbon and gift cards from Kikki-K. Now all I have to think about is what to cook for Christmas lunch. Suggestions anyone?

It's My Birthday

We have broken with the Apple tradition this year for my birthday as was the case last year and the year before. Thank you to the Musee d'Orsay for closing down for refurbishments for a year. As a result I have spent this morning having breakfast with my darling husband in the National Botanical Gardens and then visiting Masterpieces from Paris, which opened today, at the National Gallery of Australia.  We were joined by my oldest friend in the world which made the morning even more perfect. Included are two of the most famous and standout paintings by Vincent Van Gogh; Van Gogh's bedroom at Arles - 1889 (top) and Starry Night - 1888 (bottom).

The Silly Season

The silly season is upon us and moving at lightning speed this year. Our tree is yet to be purchased and even though December 1st has past we tend to do things later in our house. Mostly because we like to buy live trees. We also have a tradition of adding 3 new Christmas decorations each year to our growing collection. The picture at the top shows 2 of the 3 we bought this year from Country Road. All were chosen by the little one and while I really wanted the red plaid glass ball he went for a plain red instead. And speaking of red, I love this Nordic Light candle holder from Design House Stockholm. The arms can be moved and they come with 4 or 7. Now I think that would look lovely in our dining room.
